The parable of the lost sheep blows my mind even still today. It's so amazing to me. And Jesus says in Luke 7:41-42 that the lost sheep that is found shall love God more. Except he puts it in terms of men owing money. God is so good.
One of my favorite things about the Psalms is that they are songs - and music has always been a big part of my praise to the Lord. Almost no day of reading goes by where I don't hear a praise song that I've known at some point. Many days when I'm doing my reading, the song will strike me and I'll drop the Bible, close my eyes and just pour out my heart with song.
I love David's cry to the Lord in this Psalm. In addition to the musical version of his words (Create in my clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me...) this reminds me of one of my favorite Switchfoot songs.
"I turn everything over, I turn myself in. I turn everything over, I turn myself in. There's nothing left of me to defend... I turn everything over, I turn myself in."
Ahhh... so good and perfect. No part of me is defendable against and before my God.
This is SOOOO late but I just found out today that Palestinian women get 10 silver coins as wedding presents so to this woman, losing one of those coins was like losing a wedding ring. I always thought that was a weird analogy as Jesus teaches us not to love money and he's using an example of a woman who spends all day trying to find one coin like Scrooge or something. Furthermore, I would not throw a party if I found my lost $100 bill but I would if I found my wedding ring which was lost (if I had a wedding ring in the first place).
