FAILURE! i've been slacking lately. Matt left my Bible on the floor of my car, which my car is leaking water onto the floor of my car, which means my Bible was very wet for a few days. It has been revived, and I am back into the swing of things!!! ;-) (not that this is much of an excuse as there are many other ways to read scripture, online being one of them...)
Just one of my fav verses today, especially in light of this group, my prayer group, Haiti, and more...
"I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with you."
wow. He is LISTENING to our prayers and He is answering them.
It was so good to read the parable of the lost sheep. I will say i have been that one lost sheep more than once and Gods forgiveness and grace is so amazing when you come back. And to know that he was happier about me coming back than the ones who stayed is mind blowing and great.
I too have been slacking on my daily readings... I'm playing catch-up!
I've never really liked Jacob. I thought he truly lived up to his name of "the deceiver". I knew I could learn from him - that God blesses imperfect people - but I didn't really like his story.
But the commentary in my Bible helped to point something out. In chapter 28, we get to see Jacob come to a personal relationship with God. He probably knew about God, being the son of Isaac, but never considered him in daily decisions. After Jacob's experience at Bethel, as Beth pointed out, he is deceived by Laban, much like Jacob deceived others. But instead of run away, he sticks it out, and works extra-hard. God is beginning to work in Jacob's decisions.
I think I'm going to like Jacob's story more than I used to...

Isn't it interesting that Laban tricked Jacob with his daughters in much the same way that Jacob tricked his father to get Esau's blessing?
(Welcome back, Katy!)
